That's five festival weekends anchored to one field, plus a weekly Wednesday concert layered on top. The Jazz Festival is the outlier that pulls the crowd downtown to the Elks Lodge and Evergreen Christian Church instead, but the other four all route through the same patch of grass off Ellingwood Trail.
Aug 15–16: Mountain Music Fest And The Bacon Brothers
The 2026 Mountain Music Fest is set for Saturday, August 15, with details on the lineup rolling out ahead of the show. The headliners are the Bacon Brothers, Michael and Kevin Bacon, and the festival is a student-run production of the Wooden Hawk Foundation, which is finishing out the Futures Center and Alumni Center at Conifer High School this year.
That last detail matters for how the day feels. This isn't a promoter renting Buchanan for a weekend. Wooden Hawk is a local nonprofit and the operations lean student-heavy, which tends to keep the day family-legible: earlier start, earlier finish, kids visible on the crew. If you've walked over from a Hiwan cul-de-sac before, plan the walk in. Parking pressure builds on the surrounding streets by mid-afternoon, and the field's shuttle lots aren't yet running the second-weekend rhythm they'll hit next Saturday.
Aug 22–23: The 60th Fine Arts Festival
The following weekend is the one that has been on Evergreen's calendar since 1966. The 60th annual Evergreen Fine Arts Festival runs Saturday and Sunday, August 22 and 23, at the Buchanan Baseball Field at Evergreen Parkway and Ellingwood Trail, also known as Squaw Pass west of the parkway. The show has been run since the mid-1960s by the Evergreen Artists Association, a nonprofit that has been putting on cultural events in the mountain community for over fifty years.
The mechanics of the weekend are worth studying before you drive over.
- Free shuttles run about every twenty minutes from designated parking areas, beginning at 9:50 a.m., and the final shuttle leaves the festival site at 5:00 p.m.
- The two designated parking areas are Bergen Meadow Elementary at 1828 S. Hiwan Drive and Evergreen Middle School at 2059 S. Hiwan Drive.
- Paid parking is available fronting the baseball field itself, and the fees benefit Mountain Backpacks and the Colorado Taekwondo Institute.
- Paid parking space is very limited, handicap parking on-site is limited as well, and requires a state-issued placard or plate.
It's a juried show with a wide medium mix, wearables and functional pieces alongside the painting and photography booths. Many of the artists travel from across the country to be there, and they staff their own booths and run onsite demonstrations rather than sending reps. That's the part most guides miss. If you go on Sunday morning, you can actually get a five-minute conversation with the person who made the piece, which is not something you can do at a bigger show like Cherry Creek.
What This Means If You Live Near Hiwan
Here's the pattern that only reveals itself if you're already a resident: for two Saturdays inside eight days, the two schools on S. Hiwan Drive stop being schools and start being staging lots for a festival about a mile away. Bergen Meadow and Evergreen Middle are the shuttle origins on the 22nd and 23rd, and while the Mountain Music Fest the week before doesn't lean on the same shuttle setup, it still pulls traffic through the same corridor from the same direction.
Practical read for the two weekends:
- If your usual Saturday errand loop goes past Bergen Meadow or the middle school between 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., expect an extra light cycle at the parkway turn.
- If you were planning to have friends park at your place and walk over, the Fine Arts weekend is the one to offer that. Twenty-minute shuttle headways are fine, but the walk-in from most Hiwan streets beats waiting for the next bus.
- Wednesday concerts at Buchanan continue on their normal EPRD schedule through the month, which means the field is functionally in use six of the seven days that middle week.
Where The Town Gets Quieter
The counter-move is the interesting part. When Buchanan pulls the arts crowd uphill on Fine Arts Saturday, Downtown Evergreen and the lakefront actually loosen up for a few hours. The Elks Lodge and the Ovation West stage on Main Street get their turn during Jazz Festival weekend in late July, but by mid-August the downtown parking situation on a Saturday morning is easier than it's been since June.
If you've been meaning to get a Willow Creek table at Evergreen Lake House without the wait, or you want to take out-of-town guests around the lake path before the aspens start turning, the Fine Arts Festival Saturday morning is your window. The Wednesday Layer Nobody Talks About
The EPRD Summer Concert Series runs Wednesday evenings at Buchanan through the summer, and the movie-in-the-park series overlaps. That means in the two weeks that bracket the festivals, the field is essentially never dark: Wednesday concerts, then Mountain Music Fest, then a Wednesday, then the Fine Arts Festival. If you have a dog that reacts to amplified sound, the north edge of Buchanan Park is not the walk to pick on August 12 or August 19. The greenbelt on the south side of Bear Creek stays quiet.
A Note On The July Bookend
For completeness, the July 25 weekend deserves a mention because it changes the geography. The Evergreen Jazz Festival runs at the Elks Lodge Ballroom and Patio, Evergreen Christian Church, and Ovation West's Center Stage Theater, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. That's the one weekend in the August-adjacent stretch where the crowd is downtown instead of at Buchanan, so the Hiwan corridor gets a breather and Main Street tightens up. If you use it as your compass, the sequence is: downtown one weekend (Jazz), field the next (Music Fest), field again (Fine Arts), and then Labor Day and the calendar goes quiet.
